Garmin Adopts DiSTI’s GL Studio for Next Gen IVI-Integrated Cluster
Automotive

The DiSTI Corporation continues to expand in the automotive market with the announcement that its GL Studio, HMI development tool, was adopted by Tier 1 auto OEM supplier Garmin in some of the company’s next-generation in-vehicle infotainment platforms.

Garmin GL Studio

Garmin first approached DiSTI due to the GL Studio team’s experience with ISO 26262 ASIL D HMI development in automotive. The two companies have worked closely to deliver a cutting-edge IVI-Integrated Cluster that offers features and performance exceeding the current market.

“As Garmin continues to expand its automotive OEM electronics business we needed a supplier with industry-leading software capability and an understanding of the unique functional safety requirements of the automotive industry, as well as a willingness to invest with us in a growing product segment. DiSTI’s support has been important in the development of our integrated IVI/instrument cluster solutions and we look forward to continuing our collaboration,” said Craig Puder, Garmin’s Vice President of Automotive OEM Engineering.

For the GL Studio team, the focus has been on maximizing visual quality, performance, and safety. One of the main advantages to the cluster is performance – running 60hz on target at all times. Because visual quality is paramount, the cluster runs at full automotive HD resolution. Responsiveness is another factor that provides superiority for this cluster, there is no delay of animations, with crispness immediately apparent.

Designed to be flexible and customizable, the cluster can display a wide variety of data while matching the User Experience (UX) requirements of the unit. The GL Studio tool makes it easy to provide a wide variety of display options – carousel lists, nested submenus, customizable animations, just to name a few.

The experience of the GL Studio team in automotive safety is illustrated in the cluster’s ASIL tell-tale validator, ensuring that incorrect information is never shown to the user.

“Garmin approached us about working together on the new platform after previously adopting GL Studio for HD clusters,” said Chris Giordano, VP UI/UX Technology at DiSTI. “It’s been fantastic working with their team on such a highly sought after and flexible architecture, and we look forward to many years of continued mutual success with Garmin.”

This integration with Garmin is the latest example in the growing list of automotive suppliers and software subcontractors utilizing GL Studio for HMI development for in-vehicle infotainment and navigation systems.

DiSTI’s GL Studio integrated development framework future-proofs UI development with tier-one suppliers and software subcontractors. The flexibility of GL Studio, along with its professional service support, accelerates manufacturers’ time-to-market. For more details, please contact Sales@Disti.com.

Hyundai Mobis Selects DiSTI’s GL Studio® for Hyundai KIA Motor Cars
Automotive

Hyundai Mobis adopts DiSTI’s User Interface software, GL Studio to develop the redesigned Head-Up Displays for Hyundai KIA motor vehicles.

Hyundai KIA

The DiSTI Corporation, a leading provider of graphical user interface development software and solutions for the automotive market, announces the use of its GL Studio® software in the production of a redesigned Head-Up Display (HUD) for Hyundai KIA Motor Cars.

These redesigned automobiles will feature a 12-inch HUD that connects with the GPS data providing information like driving routes, driving assistance, and traffic signs. After activating the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), the HUD can also offer traffic data of cars driving around the vehicle.

“We are thrilled to announce that GL Studio has been selected for yet another production HUD program at Hyundai MOBIS,” said Christopher Giordano, Vice President of UX/UI Technology at The DiSTI Corporation. “Hyundai MOBIS has been leading the industry with their automotive embedded systems technology and we are very excited to be a part of the production rollout of such a reputable brand as Hyundai KIA Motors.”

DiSTI worked with Hyundai MOBIS to help deliver this cutting-edge system used to allow a driver to view driving data easily so that they can operate the vehicle more safely and conveniently. The capabilities found in the HUD help the driver significantly avoid distractions that can disperse the driver’s view or hinder their cognitive ability, such as controlling GPS and using a smartphone.

Another critical factor for Hyundai Mobis’s adoption of GL Studio® is the tool’s built-in support for ISO 26262-8:2018 Safety-Critical UI development. Having been certified up to ASIL D, GL Studio® Safety-Critical Runtime Library offers the highest standard for functional safety development..For more details, please contact Sales@Disti.com.

Reiser Adopts GL Studio for Level D Qualified Flight Training Simulators
Aviation
Defense

Reiser Simulation & Training GmbH used GL Studio in their H145 and H135 Level D qualified Full Flight Simulators, Flight Training Devices, and Avionic Desktop trainers.

Flight Training Simulator

Helicopter flight training is now more realistic, thanks to Reiser Simulation and Training and its use of DiSTI’s GL Studio. Reiser Simulation and Training selected the DiSTI Corporation’s GL Studio HMI software tool to develop the Avionic HMI for their H145 and H135 EASA Level D qualified Full Flight Simulators (FFS), Flight Training Devices, and Avionic Desktop Trainers.

“At Reiser Simulation and Training, our commitment is to produce the highest quality simulation devices available on the market,” said Marko Beutler, Head of Software Design at Reiser Simulation and Training. “ We selected GL Studio because it is an HMI software development tool that excels in flexibility, ease-of-use, and fidelity for avionics and we value that the DiSTI team shares our passion for going above-and-beyond to provide customers products of unmatched quality.”

The two companies have worked closely to ensure a smooth integration of GL Studio as part of their simulation framework. These full-flight simulators provide the highest level of fidelity possible to ensure maximum training efficiency.

Reiser achieved its first qualification according to EASA CS-FSTD(H) Level D in January 2018, from the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA) and again from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in Norway in August 2018 for their H145 FFS. The newest RST Full Flight Simulator is equipped with an interchangeable H135/H145 cockpit. In addition, the FFS features a Third Crew Member Station, utilizing virtual reality technology to train crew coordination during hook operation simulation. Pilots can bring their own night vision goggles and thus enhance the realism of the mission. The helicopter simulator designed by RST sets new training standards featuring a 240 x 80-degree out-of-the-window view direct projection via high-resolution LED video projectors and an intuitive Instructor Operating Station (IOS).

These qualifications show the level of realism and one-to-one nature of the avionics capabilities built into GL Studio, allowing developers to mirror the real aircraft.

“GL Studio, a world-class HMI Simulation tool for decades, is also a Safety-Critical HMI tool. It is the HMI tool of choice for real avionics flying in-production aircraft, spacecraft, and rotorcraft,” said Christopher Giordano, VP of UX/UI Technology at The DiSTI Corporation. “Reiser’s Level D qualifications on their Full Flight Simulators are a testament to GL Studio’s capabilities in building avionics. It has been fantastic working with Reiser for many years on this effort. We are honored to be part of their framework and look forward to many more years of successful collaboration.”

Modern full-flight simulators allow pilots to maintain a high proficiency level by strengthening skills, reducing safety risks while providing a cost-effective way for pilots to practice both routine and rarely-used skills.
