Orlando, FL (August 1, 2018) – The DiSTI Corporation, a member of the National Center for Simulation (NCS), recently sponsored an externship opportunity for Jonah Hardy, the new Modeling and Simulation instructor at Seminole County Public School’s Hagerty High School in Oviedo, Florida. Hank Okraski, the chairman of NCS’s Education Committee facilitated the experience to provide academia more insight into the industry’s talent requirements and to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in adolescents.

Jonah worked side-by-side with DiSTI engineers and artists to author and review training materials and support documentation that support a U.S. Army PEO STRI Virtual Maintenance Trainer (VMT) currently being fielded. The experience allowed him to see the entire creative and development process for a large-scale virtual maintenance trainer entering service. Jonah plans on taking this experience back into the classroom to develop class curriculum and inspire students about the world of simulation and training development, along with the career opportunities available to them upon graduation.

Dr. Lee Lacy, a member of the NCS Board of Directors and the Director of Programs at DiSTI said, “This was a great opportunity to provide insight into state-of-the art modeling and simulation technology development activities so that students can be taught relevant topics. Providing Jonah visibility into industry development best practices will help him develop and excite the future talent pool necessary to support our industry’s growth.”

In support of STEM education in the central Florida community, DiSTI hosts an annual charity golf tournament in conjunction with Central Florida STEM Education Council (CFSEC) to raise money and awareness. This year’s date for the 9th annual DiSTI Duffer is Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Deer Run Country Club in Casselberry. The family event is friendly for all golfers – from novice to advanced levels – and features food, music, drinks, and a casual 9-hole scramble tournament.

This year, the Duffer will be co-hosted by J.O.S.H. (Just our Soldiers’ Helpers), a charity organization that sends care packages to our deployed troops. More information on J.O.S.H. can be found at gojosh.org.
