A Practical Hands-On Guide to DIS Applications

DIS Applications is an in-depth overview of the DIS protocol and application development along with a detailed presentation of a variety of issues involved in building a workable DIS environment.

  • Network optimization techniques, getting the most out of your infrastructure?
  • Spatial modeling issues, interoperability is a challenge if you can’t find yourself!
  • Geospatial data sets, how to make things line up when your data does not?
  • Synthetic environment servers, everything from weapons to weather on servers...
  • Gateways to HLA, the live range, and the web, what are the real challenges?

Who Should Attend?

This course is oriented towards project engineers, systems designers, DIS/HLA end-users, and software developers. Anyone involved with Distributed Interactive Simulation will benefit from this course. A basic understanding of the C/C++ programming language is required.

Course Objectives

The ongoing development of DIS-based simulations is a practical reality in our industry. Learn how to develop and maintain DIS-based applications for a variety of simulation environments. Gain hands-on experience with DIS source code and sample applications that you can take home to kick-start your DIS project. Classroom discussion and exercises are designed to help you appreciate the full capabilities/limitations of DIS and how they relate to your simulations environment. Course discussion will include DIS to HLA interface solutions and data requirements as well as new DIS (IEEE 1278.1-200X) standard enhancements that are currently under development.
