Lt Col William David Wells

Summary of Experience
Lt Col David "Fuzzy" Wells is Chair of the Operations Research Working Group and Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the U.S. Air Force Academy. In 2005, Lt Col Wells became the first Air Force officer to obtain a Ph.D. in Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation (MOVES) from the Naval Postgraduate School. In 1996, he earned an MS in Computer Systems from the Air Force Institute of Technology as a member of the first class to specialize in Modeling and Simulation. Lt Col Wells is a 1991 graduate from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Aerospace Engineering. Lt Col Wells started his career working orbital debris analysis for the Air Force Space Command’s Chief Scientist. As information systems director, he built the first imagery, orbital analysis, and visualization facilities for the Space Warfare Center. Lt Col Wells served as software engineer and team leader for developers working on U.S. Strategic Command’s Strategic War Planning System. Lt Col Wells was an Air University "Prime Warrior" platform instructor teaching Air Force officers the basics of modeling, simulation, wargaming, and the application of aerospace doctrine. In this capacity at the Air Force Wargaming Institute, he taught 25 courses at installations worldwide to over 1,000 personnel. Lt Col Wells has also served as exercise designer and senior controller for battlestaff training exercises in CONUS, Alaska, Korea, Germany, and Norway. In 2000, he was assigned to the Air Force Agency for Modeling & Simulation where he directed Air Force M&S participation in Joint Forces Command's congressionally-mandated Millennium Challenge 02 experiment. In 2002, Lt Col Wells was designated a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional Charter Member.
